The eternal hope

Hope....I was just thinking about the meaning of hope.
What does it mean to have hope?
I believe that hope is part of what make us human, without it we are all corpses, without it there is nothing.
We need to hope as much as we need to breath or drink water, is essential.
But hope also can bring despair and can make us sad.
And then we start to hope again, to hope that the despair go away.

Bon Iver...

Pastel delight for the heart

Hello everybody, how was this first month of the year for all?, many changes ?.
For me its being an experience, I was last week in Miami and got some amazing photos of the Art District, really cool street art, maybe I share some of the pics with you in the next post.
For now I want to express something:  how it used to be so easy to feel things when we were little?, now as adults everything needs an explanation, or every move is regulate, is very exhausting but is the way it is!, specially in heart matters.
So I'm just wondering, why it was easy before but now is so difficult to say what you feel and act as you want.
It should be easier that with time we know and master certain things, but never with love, is never easy.
So well this post represents a little of my mood today, and the quote is from a Death Cab for Cutie song, called "Grapevine fires", really sad actually it goes like this:
"..a wake up call to a rented room
sounded like an alarm of impending doom
to warn us it's only a matter of time
before we all burn....."

Besos.

Ni Hao 2011, bonjour 2012!

The beginning of a year is always existential, for obvious reasons people tend to get more idealistic and determined. I usually have 1 or 2 resolutions that are mostly  wishes for the new year that are generally like warnings of things NOT to repeat from last year, and that somehow I end up making AGAIN!. Same for you? or I am the only stubborn in town?

My 2011 ended up in guangzhou, China..... I never imagine something like that would ever happen, but even more I never imagine I would felt in love with that city. But I did, and now I look forward in going again.
"Desire" is a wicked word, right until the very core, and this year I'm full of many desires, oh yes and I feel happy with them, maybe I was doing things wrong, we usually feel scare with changes and is hard for us  to accept them, but once we do they transform us in the most unexpect ways.
Who knows what 2012 will bring to me, but I dont care, just bring it!.

p.d: New illustration!. The beautifull Du Juan, like a chinesse princess, what you think?

Sasha Pivovarova in Numero

Happy Thursday !.. People the week is almost over!, mine was crazy how was yours?
I have a new idol and her name is Mary Oliver, no much time has passed since I first took a glance at her poems, since them its been love and love all the way!.
This illustration like many others lately represent a little bit of way I feel, and the text that  goes with it is a Mary Oliver poem called Wild Geese, the poem begins this way:
"You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves."

And for the model, well  you all know her  very well, is amazing Sasha Pivovarova in a Numero spread for the 2007 september issue (pretty vintage ha!).
Lots of kisses!

Postmodern Femininity

Happy Thursday to everyone!.
Wanted to make this post extra special, because I'm gonna go in a short vacations, coming back until sunday!
And this drawing is extra special for me. The image that got me inspired can be found here, is from an editorial for Harper's Bazaar UK featuring the striking Ashley Smith.
As you can see I wanted to mix it a bit, so I though into fusion the idea of ethnic culture with modernity, and I came up with this, a girl that have Molas tattooed in her skin.
Being from Panama, Molas are a very important artistic expression and I just love all the patterns and all the different designs that people come out with. Is a very important part of my culture.
So I'm sure all of you have something like that in your own countries, a magnificent, ancestral and atemporal expression of culture.
Waiting to see all your  responses,  really hope you all like it :)
Have a great weekend everyone!
Besos.

Cat girl

Morning to you all!,
This drawing is something I did a while ago, the idea of the character was evolving while painting it, so not really someone in  mind.
But now every time I see it, I get the whole catwomen vibe, you know with the tights and the heels! hehehe. And I remember I read somewhere that catwomen was going to be our Devil wears Prada girl Anne Hathaway. So how do you think she would be?. I'm not a huge fan of Batman, but I enjoyed the movies, and I'm a sucker for wardrobe design, actually is one of my favorites things, I can go hours watching movies just to see how the character wardrobe develops through the film :). I think it would be interesting to see how her character would develop, so well, lets wait and see!.
Hope you like it!.

Red head beauty

There is something truly beautiful in photography, specially when a single picture is able to reflect something beyond the image itself.
That magical feeling is easy to get at seeing Laura Taylor photos, and every picture for me was more inspiring than the other. So I was brave and tried to illustrate one of her photos, I love how it turn out, but I love even more the photo.
Hope you all like it!
